Music teachers are one of the casualties during the raging global coronavirus pandemic. Many music teachers’ livelihoods have taken a significant hit as lessons are disrupted with countries on lockdown and many parents have stopped sending their kids for music lessons for practical reasons. What many people failed to see is the importance of music education during this pandemic. Music education is in fact more important right now than ever as music is the only medicine the heart and soul need. Music education is not a privilege but an essential. Music education has to go on as it lifts people up in times of trial and has lots of benefits for everyone who is bored down by the lockdown.

Online Music Lessons

87% of music teachers have adapted to virtual classes, ABRSM survey revealed recently. For those who are hesitant to try out virtual music lessons, do give it a go as online learning is starting to become a new reality for millions of people around the world.

No doubt, online music lessons have their drawbacks but it is definitely worth noting the many advantages of online lessons in comparison to traditional ones. Firstly, you can have the lessons at the comfort of your home and do not need to travel. You can also have access to high-quality music teachers that would normally be out of your reach. You can learn with a teacher from a different city, state, or country. Recording is very easy as well and learning is enhanced when students can watch the lessons again, as many times as they like.

Online Theory & Practical Exam

The ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) has online theory and practical exams. For the remotely-assessed practical exams, candidates record their exam performances and submit the videos for assessment. The candidate/applicant can choose where and when to record the exam, as long as the location meets our requirements. This is for grade 1 – 8.

Trinity College London also offers remotely-assessed exams for Grade 6 – 8 and performance diplomas (ATCL & LTCL). They enable candidates to record their pieces/songs at a place and time of their choice and then submit the video recording via their online platform to be assessed by their expert examiners.
